An international feel for an intimate journey - The choice of album title definitely says a lot: simply Delta, for what it is, and for what it strives to be.An introspective techno-dance-pop-romantic album if there ever was one, Delta is filled with modern instrumentation that sometimes takes precedence over the lyrics Delta so beautifully sings.Lyrics dealing with pain, vulnerable relationships, fragile hearts, fragile lives and mostly, finding your inner strength, are recited continuously with the passion and honesty you expect to find in acoustic based records. However, as succesful as she has proven to be in her homeland, this time the producers were given the task of making sure the sounds were accesible the world over. And that is probably Delta s (the album, not the artist) only mishap. Some tunes are definitely friendlier at first listen because of this, but never reach the emotional heights you could expect if they were a more stripped down arrangement. The songs are beautiful, the album is hugely entertaining, but the music gets in the way of Delta s (the artist) sentiment and emotions, which could have made it an emotional tour-de-force. Instead, it feels like a new Celine Dion album. It s still great, yet will never move as deeply as when it was all new. Give the album a try, it s worth the time, but bear in mind that from the first couple of listens you will be able to decide which songs you like and which you don t, and after a few months you ll be done, which is a shame, for different arrangements would have made this an album to love and listen to for years.
Delta Has Strong Debute - Delta Goodman is one of the top vocalists in Australia, and after listening to this CD you ll know why. Though the album is not anything revolutionary or anything, it is a solid, well made CD that is, if nothing else, fun to listen to. Granted, when the CD starts out you might not think that. Believe Again is a terribly forgettable pop song, one that I d expect Britney Spears to sing, but once that s over the album picks up with In This Life, a song that has since gone on to become a hit single in America. This is probably the best song on the CD, the song that showcases her good vocal abilities and is just a fun song all together. After that the album tends to be more hit and miss. Songs like Angels In The Room, I Can t Break It, and One Day are good songs that you ll be coming back to many times. God Laughs, Woman, and Born To Try...eh, not so much. Though it s more of a three star album then a four star, I m going to give it four because it s a much stronger debut album then most people get, and it at least has me excited for her future projects.
The Amazing Delta Goodrem - Do yourself a huge favour and buy this CD. Delta is amazing and you will fall in love with her voice and her song writing. She is an exceptionally talented young woman.Once you buy this CD you will want more of Delta!
The Next Celine Dion - Every track is amazing. She really sounds like a younger Celine but with a bit more pop in her tunes.
Good for some, but not for me - I haven t been sure how to classify this CD, because pop doesn t describe it properly at all. The style reminds me more of Celine Dion, mostly downbeat ballads with high-intensity vocals. For this reason, Delta s CD didn t really work for me. To give an example, the first track Believe Again showcases Delta s vocal talents very well, and the music has moments that seem like you could almost get lost in it, but in the chorus the combination of lead vocal, backup vocals, and music becomes overwhelming. Most of the CD has this sort of feel to it, each song seemed to start out sounding like it would be different and provide some variety, but by the chorus they all seemed too much alike. You Will Only Break My Heart was one of the few standouts for me, because it was the closest song to actual pop on the whole CD. It was the most upbeat as well. It still didn t quite fit in with typical radio pop, but I liked it. My favorite track however was the similarly titled I Can t Break It To My Heart. It s another slow ballad, but it kept things simple and had a very pleasing warm, heartfelt sincerity. Everything seemed to gel well for this song, and I found myself singing it well after I listened to it.On the whole, Delta s music just didn t fit me. Her singing is perfectly good, but somehow the arrangements almost never seemed right. I frequently had the feeling while I listened to it that her music would appeal very much to someone else, but for me it just didn t click.
